The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to prosecute Attorney General Godfred Dame for allegedly attempting to coerce Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance trial, to implicate Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Jakpa revealed during cross-examination that Dame had called him at odd hours, seeking testimony against Dr. Forson. The trial involves Dr. Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister, who is accused of procuring faulty ambulances for Ghana, sparking public debate and calls for Dame’s resignation.

Addressing journalists in Accra on May 28, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah accused Dame of perjury and pledged to prosecute him if the NDC wins the 2024 elections. Mr Nketiah insisted that should President Akufo-Addo fail to act, a future NDC government will hold Mr Dame accountable for fabricating evidence.

“The immediate prosecution of Godfred Dame for multiple violations of the laws of Ghana. Should President Akufo-Addo fail to prosecute him, a future NDC government will prosecute Godfred Dame for this heinous crime of fabricating evidence,” Mr Nketiah declared.

Asiedu Nketiah also alleged that the government has no substantial evidence against Dr. Ato Forson and is fabricating charges to persecute him for his vocal opposition to the current administration’s economic policies.

“Friends from the media, it is clear from the incontrovertible evidence we have presented that the government has no evidence of wrongdoing against the Minority Leader. They are fabricating charges to persecute him in retaliation for his strong opposition to the economic mismanagement and general misrule of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” Asiedu Nketiah stated.
