The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of running a deceitful campaign aimed at obstructing accountability in the high-profile ambulance case involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
This follows the NDC’s release of a 16-minute tape, which they claim supports allegations made by the third accused, Richard Jakpa in the ambulance trial.
The tape allegedly features a conversation between Attorney General Godfred Dame and Jakpa, where Dame reportedly coaches Jakpa on statements to make in court to implicate Dr. Forson.
The NDC asserts that this conversation indicates a deliberate attempt to target Dr. Forson.
Reacting to these claims, Frank Davis, the NPP’s Director of Legal Affairs, condemned the NDC’s actions in a press conference.
He stated, “the NDC, since last week, has set in motion a malicious scheme fuelled by lies, falsehoods, misrepresentations, blackmail, and needless pollution of the mass media with the sole intention of obstructing the course of justice and scandalizing the criminal procedures in the high court. This is all in an effort to shield Dr Ato Forson and his associates from taking responsibility for authoring payments that resulted in a €3.27 million loss to the state, monies that belong to us all as Ghanaians.”
In response, the NDC has called for the immediate resignation or dismissal of Attorney General Godfred Dame on grounds of misconduct and alleged manipulation of the justice system.
They also demand Godfred Dame’s prosecution for alleged violations of Ghanaian law, warning that a future NDC-led government would pursue legal action if President Akufo-Addo fails to act. Additionally, the NDC seeks disciplinary proceedings against Dame by the General Legal Council and a publicly televised parliamentary inquiry into these allegations and other reports of judicial manipulations by the Attorney General.
