Dr Bawumia denies reckless spending, advocates for reduced government expenditure

Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted claims of reckless spending by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted claims of reckless spending by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking at the 8th Ghana CEOs Summit in Accra on Monday, May 27, Dr. Bawumia defended the government’s financial decisions, emphasizing that funds have been judiciously allocated to long-term beneficial projects.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted initiatives such as the networking of hospitals and the Ghana.gov platform as examples of responsible government spending. He also proposed a significant reduction in government expenditure, advocating for a 3 to 5 percent cut.

“My view, as I have stated, is that let us bring down government expenditure between 3 to 5 percent. I believe that I can run a government with 50 ministers rather than what we are doing today,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia’s plan to limit the number of ministers to 50 is aimed at reducing costs and safeguarding the public purse.
