Kwaku Ansa-Asare, a former Director General of the Ghana School of Law, has called for the resignation of Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame amid allegations related to the ongoing ambulance purchase trial against Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Ansa-Asare urged Dame to step down on moral grounds to preserve his reputation. This follows claims by Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance case, who alleged in court that Dame approached him multiple times to implicate Dr. Forson.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to provide evidence supporting Jakpa’s claims.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Ansa-Asare reflected on Dame’s integrity and expressed his concern over the allegations. He emphasized the importance of Dame maintaining his reputation, recalling his time as a distinguished student.

Ansa-Asare also criticized Dame’s handling of the plea bargaining process, arguing that such negotiations should occur in the chambers of the Attorney General or the trial judge, not at the ministry. He suggested that Dame should face legal proceedings in court rather than a politically charged inquiry.

“Given the circumstances, there is every moral justification for the Attorney General to resign to protect his hard-earned reputation. He must confront the legal proceedings in court and defend himself before an impartial judge,” Ansa-Asare stated.
