Jachie residents seek power restoration after rainstorm havoc
The Jachie community in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti Region remains without electricity a week after a devastating rainstorm on May 16, 2024, which left several people injured and a 16-year-old girl dead.
The storm damaged the local transformer and displaced electricity poles, plunging households into darkness. Residents and business owners are struggling with the outage, impacting their livelihoods.
A grinding mill owner expressed frustration over losing customers, particularly on market days like Friday, due to the power outage since last Thursday, making it impossible to operate.
Richard Bimpeh, Assembly Member for the Jachie East Electoral area, has been working to restore power.
He visited the ECG branch in Bekwai and spoke with the manager, who assured him that a memo for poles was being written, but the timeline for restoration remains unclear.
Bimpeh stated that after visiting the Bosomtwe DCE office and speaking with the ECG’s PRO, they informed him that no poles or water were available.
He pleaded with authorities, particularly ECG and NADMO, to assist the community.
The community is urging authorities to expedite the restoration of power to alleviate their suffering.
