A third victim has succumbed to injuries from the premix fuel fire outbreak in Egyiresia near Sekondi, raising the death toll to three.

The fire, which erupted on Saturday, May 18, was caused by leaking premix fuel igniting from a nearby fish-smoking facility.

Two victims died on Sunday, May 19, while 14 others were hospitalized. According to Gabriel Ato Mensah, the Assembly Member for Egyiresia-Mempasem, 55-year-old Isaac Blankson passed away on Tuesday, May 21, at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Despite the tragedy, there is some positive news: five patients have been discharged, and the remaining victims are still under treatment.

“As of Tuesday morning around 11:30, we received news of Isaac Blankson’s passing, bringing the death toll to three. Currently, two patients remain at Korle Bu Hospital,” Mensah reported.

“We have discharged five people—three from Effia-Nkwanta and two from Saint Benedict Hospital. Five patients are still receiving various treatments at Effia-Nkwanta, and one is at Saint Benedict.”
