Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, has unveiled plans to equip head porters, commonly known as “kayayei,” with driving skills.

Dr. Bawumia revealed this initiative during the launch of the “Kayayei” Empowerment Programme held in Madina on Tuesday, May 21.

Emphasizing his dedication to providing opportunities for marginalized groups, he announced ongoing discussions with Metro Mass and Ayalolo to facilitate driving lessons for the “kayayei.”

The programme, led by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), includes a three-story facility equipped with essential amenities for the head porters. This facility will serve as both a residence and a training center for them.

The Kayayei Empowerment Programme aims to train 5,000 young women between May and November 2024, with 600 participants per cohort each month.

It will offer practical skills and knowledge, preparing participants for various trades and occupations.

Training will span three weeks, during which participants will receive startup kits, stipends, and complimentary accommodation.
