Henry Quartey denies allegations of NPP bias in security service recruitment
Interior Minister, Henry Quartey has refuted claims made by the Minority in Parliament that the government is currently recruiting New Patriotic Party (NPP) members into security and intelligence agencies.
Addressing these allegations, Mr Quartey clarified that the upcoming recruitment is intended for individuals who previously applied for positions in these agencies but were not selected and are still interested in joining.
“The security and intelligence agencies have yet to announce their eligibility criteria for the planned recruitment,” Henry Quartey said, describing the Minority’s accusations as an “incitement” against the government.
Henry Quartey’s response follows a press conference held by the Minority on May 20, 2024, where they alleged that the government had allocated 20 recruitment slots to each NPP Member of Parliament.
Mr Quartey, who is also the MP for Ayawaso Central, addressed these claims during a radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
He urged the Minority to stop spreading false information and instead commend the government for offering a second chance to qualified Ghanaian nationals who had previously applied for these roles.
He emphasized that it would have been unreasonable for the government to sell recruitment forms again, knowing the limited availability of positions.
Henry Quartey described the Minority’s allegations as a “palpable lie,” noting that the alleged slots, when multiplied by the number of NPP MPs, far exceeded the recruitment clearance granted by the Ministry of Finance.
“We are not recruiting party people to do party work,” Quartey asserted, adding that the Ministry of Interior would soon release an official statement regarding the recruitment process.
