Election 2024: Minority alleges illegal recruitment of NPP foot soldiers into security services
The Minority in Parliament has accused the government of unlawfully recruiting NPP foot soldiers into the security services ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to the Minority caucus, each NPP Parliamentary Candidate has been allocated 30 recruitment slots, allegedly in a bid to manipulate the upcoming December polls.
During a press briefing, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed these concerns, stating that any unauthorized actions by these recruits, whom he referred to as “NPP thugs in uniform,” would be strongly resisted by National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters.
“It is unacceptable that the government continues to put cheap partisan considerations ahead of the overall peace, security, and stability of our country in the run-up to the 2024 elections,” Dr. Forson declared.
He further emphasized that any attempts by the government to rig the 2024 elections would be thwarted by the NDC. “We wish to remind President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Alhaji Bawumia that they will not have their way this time regardless of whatever manoeuvrings they will roll out in the 2024 elections,” he said.
Dr. Forson warned that NDC members, supporters, and sympathizers would defend themselves against unlawful attacks and hold those responsible for violations accountable.
“Our members, supporters, and sympathizers will not just defend themselves against unlawful attacks by NPP thugs in uniforms, we shall hold these NPP hoodlums personally responsible for their unlawful violations of the laws of Ghana and the legitimate rights of our people,” he added.
He concluded by urging NPP foot soldiers to act lawfully or face the consequences and the wrath of NDC supporters.
