Fire at premix fuel depot in Egyiresia injures 16 and destroys vehicles

A tragic fire outbreak in the community of Egyiresia near Sekondi has resulted in the deaths of two of the 16 injured individuals.

A devastating fire outbreak in the fishing community of Egyiresia near Sekondi in the Western Region has left 16 individuals severely injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 18, around 4 pm, when leaking premix fuel came into contact with flames from a nearby fish smoking facility, igniting a fierce blaze.

The fire resulted in significant injuries to 16 people, who were quickly evacuated to nearby medical facilities. Thirteen victims were rushed to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Takoradi, while the remaining three were transported to Saint Benedict Hospital in Inchaban for urgent medical attention.

The Western Regional command of the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly to the emergency, but despite their efforts, the fire also caused substantial property damage, including the destruction of two vehicles – a Range Rover and an Opel Astra Taxi.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the fire outbreak to determine the exact cause and to prevent future occurrences.
