The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a warning to political parties, urging them to discourage their regional and constituency executives from transporting minors and foreigners to registration centers.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, May 13, Deputy Electoral Commissioner Dr. Bossman Asare stressed the crucial role of political parties in ensuring the integrity of the voter register.

Dr. Asare condemned efforts by certain party members to facilitate the registration of minors and foreigners, emphasizing that such actions undermine the country’s electoral process.

Additionally, he advised parents to prevent their underage children from registering as voters, citing reports of minors and non-Ghanaians being encouraged to register.

The EC called on the national leadership of political parties to discourage their executives from engaging in such activities, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a credible voter register for the 2024 elections.

Dr. Asare urged the police to enforce the law against individuals involved in facilitating the registration of minors and foreigners, emphasizing the need for deterrent measures.

He concluded by reminding underage individuals that it is illegal for them to register as voters.
