Stop Abusing Children at Home, DOVVSU Warns Parents
Parents and caregivers have been advised to desist from abusing their wards in their homes.
According to the Western Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, Superintendent Selina Aboagye, most children have suffered abuse in their homes due to parental neglect and depression, amongst others.
Child abuse is any international harm or mistreatment of a child under 18 years old.
She recounted cases where children have been denied access to healthcare, education, and other ill-mannered behaviours portrayed by guardians.
Madam Selina Aboagye in an interview on Spice 91.9 FM, stated that the laws frown on individuals who give bad treatment to children both at home and school.
For her part, Metro Director at the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in the Western Region, Constance Baiden, mentioned that physical, emotional, psychological, medical, and sexual abuse are some forms of abuse children go through.
She said child abuse is done by people the child knows and trusts, often a parent or relative.
She, however, advised the public to report any abuse of a child to the proper authorities.
