Security guard shot outside Drake’s home amidst feud with Kendrick Lamar
Toronto police reported that a security guard was shot overnight outside Canadian rapper Drake’s residence.
The incident occurred at the corner of the Park Lane Circle mansion around 02:00 EDT (06:00 GMT) on Tuesday, with suspects firing from a vehicle before fleeing the scene.
It’s uncertain whether Drake was present during the shooting or if he was the intended target.
Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force stated that it’s too early to determine a motive and that Drake’s team is cooperating with the investigation.
The victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds including one to the chest, is in serious condition in the hospital.
Video footage of the shooting is being assessed, although details are not being released due to quality issues.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the violence, emphasizing that any shooting is unwelcome in the city and expressing hope for the perpetrators to be apprehended.
The incident is part of a broader conflict between Drake and US rapper Kendrick Lamar, marked by a series of “diss tracks” exchanged recently.
Lamar’s latest song, “Not Like Us,” features artwork depicting Drake’s house in Toronto’s Bridle Path neighborhood, suggesting controversial allegations about Drake’s personal life.
Drake responded to these accusations in his song “The Heart Part 6,” denying them and expressing disgust.
Drake’s residence, known as The Embassy, has garnered attention for its heightened security measures, including gates that exceed city regulations due to security concerns.
As the police investigate the shooting, the property remains cordoned off with caution tape.
