Corn mill operators at the Kaneshie Market in Accra are facing significant financial hardships due to the ongoing power outages across the country.

Relying heavily on electricity for their operations, these operators are witnessing a decline in their income streams. The spoilage of soaked corn and other products during prolonged power disruptions adds to their woes.

Atsu Djugbatey, a respected figure among the corn mill operators, expressed his frustration, reflecting the sentiments of his fellow operators and their customers.

They are displeased with the inconsistent power supply and call for a load schedule timetable from the Electricity Company of Ghana to mitigate their challenges.

The inability to mill soaked maize when there is no electricity disrupts their workflow, forcing them to wait for power restoration at night, which presents their biggest challenge.

Blaming the government for the situation, Mr. Djugbatey urges them to address the power crisis. He emphasizes the dissatisfaction among customers and the inability to generate sufficient income to cover electricity bills.

Simon Degbey, another operator, echoes similar sentiments, highlighting the negative impact on their families’ well-being due to declining sales and financial strain.

Both operators plead with the government to issue a timetable for power outages, enabling them to plan their work effectively and alleviate the financial burdens imposed by erratic power supply.

They emphasize the urgency of intervention to safeguard their livelihoods.
