Chairperson of the NCCE visits Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia
The Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Kathleen Addy, paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The purpose of the visit was to congratulate Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on his Silver Jubilee Anniversary, inform him about the NCCE’s presence in his Kingdom for the launch of the Commission’s 2024 Annual Constitution Week Celebration, seek wise counsel, and discuss how to revive the Commission’s longstanding relationship with Manhyia.
During the meeting, Ms. Addy congratulated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on his Silver Jubilee and informed him about the NCCE’s presence in the Ashanti Region to launch this year’s Annual Constitution Week celebrations.
She commended the leadership of His Royal Majesty, acknowledging the admirable sense of unity in Asanteman.
Ms. Addy expressed the Commission’s desire to renew its longstanding relationship with Manhyia and Asanteman, dating back to 2012.
Regarding the launch of the 2024 Annual Constitution Week, Ms. Addy spoke about the theme; ‘Together we can build Ghana, So Get Involved’. She presented a special copy of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, warmly welcomed the NCCE Chair and her team to Manhyia. He emphasized the importance of Civic Education in teaching citizens about the laws of Ghana and instilling patriotism.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II lamented the decline in discipline and patriotic values among citizens, urging the reintroduction of Civic Education as a subject in schools to enhance national development.
He encouraged the NCCE to prioritize seeking corporate funding and assured support from his end. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also stressed the importance of citizens respecting the laws of the country and called for increased awareness creation on the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
During the visit, presentations were made by Deputy Chairman of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, and other officials from the Commission.
