Kendji Girac a former contestant of The Voice France seriously injured in shooting
A French The Voice winner is in serious condition after being shot, with authorities stating that Kendji Girac’s life is no longer at risk.
Police responded to a traveler site in Biscarrosse, approximately 50km from Bordeaux, at around 05:30 local time.
Initial reports suggest that Girac linked the incident to his own mishandling of the firearm during discussions with investigators.
Girac, 27, grew up in the Catalan Gypsy community and gained fame in 2013 with a cover of a song by Congolese-French rapper Gims.
He won The Voice France the following year and has since released five studio albums, with his latest being L’École de la Vie (The School of Life) in 2022.
His popular songs “Color Gitano” and “Andalouse” have amassed hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.
Reacting to the news, French TV host Cyril Hanouna expressed shock and praised Girac’s character, describing him as kind-hearted and always willing to help.
