A mason receives court bail for assaulting a driver at a betting center
The Ashaiman District Court has granted Bernard Awaga, a 32-year-old mason, bail of GH₵6,000 with one surety for assaulting a driver at a betting center in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region.
Presided over by Mr. Derick Pardden Eshun, the court granted bail after Awaga pleaded guilty with an explanation to the assault charge.
The case was also referred for alternative dispute resolution and adjourned to June 17, 2024.
Chief Inspector Patient Afi Blihia, prosecuting, stated that the complainant, Mr. James Kofi Zor, a driver, was assaulted on March 1, 2024, at about 12:10 p.m. near Ashaiman Traffic at the Bingo Bet Centre.
Upon police arrival, the complainant identified Awaga as the assailant, leading to his arrest. Investigations revealed that both parties were at the betting center when Awaga, upset over a perceived offense, assaulted the complainant.
Awaga later admitted to the assault during police interrogations.
