NFL star Rashee Rice turns himself in to police after high-speed car crash
NFL star Rashee Rice has turned himself in to authorities after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with a high-speed car crash last month.
“I took full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate,” Mr. Rice, 23, said earlier in April.
The crash, which occurred in Dallas, Texas, left four people injured. Mr. Rice is facing eight felony charges related to the incident, with potential penalties including years in prison.
“I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in [the] accident,” Mr. Rice stated in a social media post on April 3.
The crash involved two speeding cars, a Lamborghini and Corvette, resulting in a “chain reaction collision” that damaged four more vehicles, according to Dallas police. Both drivers fled the scene.
An arrest warrant for Mr. Rice, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was issued on Wednesday, and he turned himself in the following day. He was taken to a local jail with a bond totaling $40,000 (£31,856).
Of the eight felonies, six are counts of collision involving bodily injury, each carrying potential prison sentences of up to five years and fines of up to $5,000.
A sixth charge, collision involving serious bodily injury, carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The final charge, aggravated assault, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Dashcam footage from another motorist captured the moment of the collision, showing the two speeding vehicles losing control and crashing into several cars, leading to a chaotic scene on the motorway.
Theodore Knox, the driver of the second car involved, is also facing an arrest warrant.
Mr. Rice, originally from the Dallas area, was drafted to the NFL in 2023 and played a role in the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl victory in February.
