An Accra Circuit Court has remanded three drivers accused of plotting to rob and kidnap a student.

Christopher Adjetey, Bernard Aminamah, and Aziz Abu (also known as Azix Father) have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They are scheduled to appear before Judge Jojo Hagan on March 26, 2024.

Meanwhile, another individual named Emmanuel, believed to be part of the group, is currently on the run.

According to Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori-Appiah, the complainant, Basilisa Esi Asangono, is a student residing in Darkuman.

Adjetey and Aminamah are drivers residing in Amanfrom and Kasoa, respectively, while Abu lives in Kaemebre, Kasoa.

The prosecution’s case states that on September 14, 2023, around 10:00 pm at Crispol City, the complainant was waiting by the roadside to catch a taxi to Kasoa.

She boarded a Nissan Versa taxicab driven by Abu, with Adjetey and Aminamah also inside.

Upon reaching Kasoa, Abu refused to stop, and the group proceeded to a location near Ngleshie Amanfrom.

There, Aminamah demanded the complainant’s iPhone 7, worth GH₵6,500.00, and when she resisted, Adjetey assaulted her and threatened her life.

They forcibly took her belongings and demanded a ransom of GH₵10,000.00, threatening to kill her and dispose of her body.

The situation escalated with more violence, including Abu using a chain to assault the complainant.

They drove around, waiting for the ransom, until encountering a police patrol team near Ngleshie Amanfrom Basic School.

The accused attempted to flee but were pursued until they had an accident.

Abu escaped, while Adjetey and Aminamah were apprehended, and items used in the crime were recovered.

The accused individuals admitted to the offense in their statements and implicated Abu and Emma as accomplices.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend all involved parties, as they are suspected of multiple robberies in areas like Legon, Lapaz, Choice-Weija, and Ashaiman.
