Minority to pursue impeachment against Akufo-Addo over anti-gay bill
The Minority in Parliament has declared its intention to commence impeachment proceedings against President Akufo-Addo due to his refusal to endorse the anti-gay bill.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, criticized the recent directive from the Secretary to the President instructing the Clerk of Parliament not to forward the anti-LGBTQ bill to the Jubilee House, deeming it unwarranted and unacceptable.
During a session in Parliament on Thursday, March 21, Ato Forson emphasized the Minority’s dedication to upholding the country’s constitution and opposition to any infringements upon it.
He expressed solidarity with the Speaker of Parliament and conveyed a clear message to the President and his administration, warning them against unfamiliar paths the country might be led under their leadership.
Ato Forson asserted that the President’s actions constitute a violation of the constitution and hinted at potential impeachment proceedings in the near future, emphasizing the Minority’s commitment to ensuring accountability.
