Military Officer passes away during Independence Day parade

Independence

A tragic incident occurred during the 67th Independence anniversary celebrations in Koforidua, Eastern Region, as a military officer from the Ghana Air Force collapsed and subsequently passed away.

Alongside 66 others, the officer received immediate medical attention from stationed doctors at the event, with eight individuals later transported to the Eastern Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Sources from both the Eastern Regional Hospital and the Regional Ambulance Service confirmed the deterioration of the military officer’s health, leading to his unfortunate demise.

The Local Organizing Committee expressed profound sorrow over the incident and is actively communicating with the military high command about the loss.

Furthermore, at the Tamale Jubilee Park on the same day, a total of 72 people collapsed during the Independence Parade. This group included students, service personnel, and soldiers, who suffered severe dehydration due to the harsh weather conditions. The prolonged exposure to the scorching sun during the event likely contributed to their collapse.

Yakubu Amin Abukari, the northern regional head of the Ghana Red Cross Society, reported that all 72 individuals who collapsed were successfully resuscitated by the paramedic staff assigned to provide first aid during the regional Independence Day parade.
