Fatal clash erupts between Osino students and residents
Police officers are currently stationed at Osino Presby Senior High and Technical School following a physical altercation between students and members of the Nsuapemso community in the Fanteakwa South District, resulting in a fatality.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
The stationed personnel are conducting surveillance and patrolling the school’s vicinity to promptly identify and prevent potential retaliatory actions.
Sources report that the confrontation erupted on the school premises due to escalating tensions stemming from a previous clash on Monday, February 19, 2024, between Osino Presby Senior High students and individuals from Nsuapemso.
Allegedly, one student seized a phone belonging to a local resident and subjected him to severe physical assault during a debate in another community.
In a bid for retaliation, the local individuals returned on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, resulting in a violent clash.
During the altercation, six individuals from the community attempted to set fire to the boys’ dormitory but were subdued by students. One of the community members was apprehended, assaulted, and later pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Additionally, students allegedly set fire to a vehicle belonging to a resident.
In response, the Fanteakwa South District Security Council (DISEC) swiftly convened, deploying police personnel from the district and reinforcements from Koforidua to the school to uphold law and order, enhance security, and restore calm.
DISEC also extended condolences to the deceased’s family and assured them of a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure justice.
