Small Arms Commission Urges Against Buying Toy Guns for Children
Deputy Director of the Small Arms and Light Weapon Commission, Gyebi Asante, has advised parents and guardians to desist from buying toy guns for their wards.
According to him, children mostly learn from watching movies, where arms are used for different purposes, and are likely to practice what they see.
Referring to instances of shooting incidents among schoolchildren in the United States of America, Gyebi Asante noted that most of them come from parents buying toy guns for their wards.
Speaking with Ampem Darko Obeng, host of Spice FM’s Morning Show, Mr. Gyebi Asante urged persons who possess guns for purposes of protection, hunting, or other uses to get them licensed.
He stated that about a million and a hundred thousand guns were not licensed in 2014 and urged indigenes to endeavour to get their arms or guns licensed before usage.
Mr. Gyebi Asante called on Ghanaians to help the Commission achieve its mandate of ensuring the proper usage of guns.
