Bagbin plans committee to probe cocoa roads contractors arrears

Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced intentions to establish a high-level committee to investigate the issue of outstanding payments owed to cocoa road contractors.

Bagbin revealed that numerous petitions have been submitted to him by both cocoa road contractors and those contracted by the Roads and Highways Ministry, citing the government’s delay in settling their arrears.

Expressing concern over the delayed payments owed to contractors for their work on various roads across Ghana, the Concerned Cocoa Road Contractors Association has voiced their agitation.

In response, Bagbin proposed the formation of a committee to thoroughly investigate the matter, emphasizing the need for enhanced collaboration between the different caucuses within the House.

He stated, “I have received many petitions from contractors regarding non-payment of their labour, a lot of arrears from both COCOBOD and Roads and Highways. In fact, I propose setting up a high-powered committee to investigate that matter because it is very important.”
