John Mahama opposes shifting 2024 election date to November
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), firmly stated that the party opposes the proposed change of the 2024 election date from December to November.
Addressing the Minority caucus meeting in Ho on Saturday (February 10), Mahama emphasized that the NDC does not view the proposal as genuine.
He attributed the proposal to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) sensing impending defeat and attempting to undermine the election’s credibility.
Mahama cited the Electoral Commission’s sudden interest in shifting the election date, despite not demonstrating readiness during the December District Assembly elections, which revealed logistical deficiencies.
Mahama expressed confidence in the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections, predicting a rejection of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government due to perceived poor governance.
He highlighted issues such as corruption, maladministration, nepotism, arrogance, incompetence, and misuse of state resources as factors contributing to the NPP’s anticipated defeat. Mahama accused the NPP of seeking fraudulent means to manipulate the election outcome in their favor.
