Nigeria: Tinubu mandates national pledge recitation at public events

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has mandated the recitation of the national pledge at all official and public gatherings across the nation, announced presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale in a statement on Thursday.

The directive aims to ensure “complete reverence for the national symbols, reinforce allegiance and devotion to the country, and uphold Nigeria’s values and distinctive identity,” Ngelale emphasized.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of honoring national values, championing the nation’s ideals, and adhering to established norms.

“Everyone of us loves victory. We love to win. When you are positive and you are hopeful, Nigeria is winning,” the statement underscored.

The national pledge, which Tinubu specified should follow the national anthem, urges all Nigerians to exhibit faithfulness and loyalty to their nation. It stands as a cornerstone of the country’s national symbols.

This directive coincides with Nigeria’s efforts to address escalating communal conflicts between herders and local farming communities, embroiled in disputes over resources.
