President Biden denies memory issues amid accusations of mishandling classified files
President Joe Biden strongly criticized an investigation that accused him of mishandling classified files and struggling to recall key life events.
He vehemently denied any memory issues, stating, “My memory is fine,” and condemned the claim that he couldn’t remember when his son died, declaring, “How the hell dare he raise that?”
While the inquiry found that Biden had “wilfully retained and disclosed” classified files, it chose not to pursue charges against him.
Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Hur determined that Biden had improperly kept classified documents related to Afghanistan policy after his vice-presidency.
The scathing 345-page report highlighted the president’s “significant limitations” in memory. Biden emotionally responded to doubts about his recollection, stating, “I don’t need anyone to remind me when he [Beau Biden] passed away.”
He cited being preoccupied with an international crisis during the inquiry. The report also accused Biden of sharing sensitive material with a ghostwriter, a claim he refuted.
Special Counsel Hur suggested that convicting Biden would be challenging due to his portrayal as a sympathetic elderly man with memory issues.
Despite concerns about his age, Biden asserted his qualifications, saying, “I know what the hell I’m doing.”
However, he mistakenly referred to Egyptian leader Abdul Fattah al-Sisi as the “president of Mexico.” Regarding classified documents found in his home, Biden blamed his staff, claiming ignorance.
He insisted that his memory is “fine” and criticized the report’s language on memory lapses. Classified files were discovered at Biden’s Delaware home and former office.
This came after a separate investigation charged former President Donald Trump with mishandling classified documents.
Trump called for the cancellation of his trial, emphasizing unity for the country.
