Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu hopeful for swift anti-gay bill amendment
Parliament’s Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed confidence in the imminent completion of the clause-by-clause amendment process for the bill concerning the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values, commonly referred to as the anti-gay bill, by the end of Friday, February 9.
The legislative session resumed on Tuesday, February 6, and today, the House is slated to resume its deliberations on the anti-gay bill. This legislation aims to outlaw LGBTQ activities and related behaviors within Ghanaian society.
During his opening remarks in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu revealed that the bill is expected to undergo comprehensive amendments by the end of Friday.
He stated, “The Business Committee on February 5 programmed to have the first consideration of the bill beginning February 7, and we do anticipate that we will be able to get it to a closure by Friday [February 9].”
Additionally, he indicated that bills concerning the Ghana Boundary Commission and the Ghana Hydro Power Authority are also currently under consideration.
