Taylor Swift threatens legal action against student who tracks her private jet
A student who monitors the flights of celebrities’ private jets has received a cease-and-desist letter from Taylor Swift‘s lawyers, who allege his actions amount to “stalking.”
Jack Sweeney, a 21-year-old student at the University of Central Florida, utilizes publicly available data to track the movements of affluent individuals’ planes and shares them online a day later.
Swift’s legal team claims that Sweeney’s activities pose a significant threat to the singer’s safety and well-being, describing it as a “life-or-death matter.”
They cite Swift’s past encounters with stalkers and argue that the disclosed information provides potential criminals with a “roadmap” to carry out their plans.
Sweeney, however, maintains that his intentions are not malicious. He emphasizes his belief in transparency and public information, stating, “nowhere do I intend for harm.”
He received the cease-and-desist letter after media scrutiny intensified regarding Swift’s carbon footprint, particularly focusing on her high private jet CO2 emissions.
In 2022, Swift topped the list of celebrities with the highest private jet emissions, according to Yard, a digital marketing firm.
This scrutiny comes amidst Swift’s upcoming travel plans, including attending her boyfriend’s NFL Super Bowl game in Las Vegas following a concert in Tokyo.
The student’s posts refrain from disclosing who travels on the planes or their destinations upon landing. He has also tracked flights belonging to other wealthy Americans such as Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg.
