National Peace Council praises NDC for IPAC return
The National Peace Council (NPC) has conveyed gratitude to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for heeding its call to rejoin the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
Previously, the NDC had opted out of IPAC meetings post the 2020 elections, causing concerns among Ghana’s stakeholders.
Following a Post-Elections Stakeholders’ workshop at Ada in 2021, where participants assigned the NPC the task of facilitating the NDC’s return to IPAC, the NPC engaged with the NDC, the Electoral Commission (E.C), and other stakeholders for this purpose.
In a Stock-taking conference on December 14, 2023, at Peduase, in preparation for the 2024 elections, the NDC publicly committed to rejoining IPAC.
Subsequently, the NDC actively participated in IPAC meetings on January 22 and 29, 2024. The NPC expressed optimism that the NDC’s commitment would endure, further enhancing Ghana’s democratic standing.
Acknowledging the Electoral Commission, Political Parties, Political Actors, and other stakeholders in the electoral management system for their support in fostering lasting peace in Ghana, the NPC urged all political stakeholders to utilize dialogue and consensus-building for a free, fair, credible, and peaceful 2024 election.
Emphasizing the importance of patience and support for the NPC and its partners in the gradual process of peacebuilding, the NPC encouraged the public to recognize and endorse efforts towards building a sustainable and peaceful nation.
