GII warns against vote-buying in NPP parliamentary primaries on January 27
The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is urging candidates and delegates to avoid engaging in vote-buying during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 27.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the CEO of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), is currently under investigation for alleged vote-buying during the vetting of nominees for the primaries.
Mary Addah, the Executive Director of GII, emphasized in an interview that while these inducements may be tempting, both candidates and delegates should be aware that they are both accountable and could face legal consequences.
“The act of vote-buying is a criminal offense. Various inducements may seem appealing during these processes, but it’s important to recognize that engaging in such activities is a crime that could lead to prosecution. Both aspiring representatives and delegates should be mindful that they are held liable,” Mary Addah explained.
The NPP is set to hold elections on Saturday in constituencies where there are incumbent MPs.
