Ryan Gosling expresses disappointment over Oscar snub for Barbie’s Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie
Actor Ryan Gosling expressed his “disappointment” over the Oscar snub of Barbie’s Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie in major categories.
Gosling, nominated for best supporting actor, acknowledged his honor but emphasized the crucial roles played by Gerwig and Robbie in the success of Barbie.
While expectations were high for Gerwig in the best director and Robbie in the best actress categories, they received nominations elsewhere – Robbie as a producer in best picture and Gerwig for best adapted screenplay alongside Noah Baumbach.
Barbie, the top-grossing film of 2023, earning $1.44 billion globally, faced disappointment in key categories.
Gosling’s statement to CBS expressed his gratitude for the nomination while highlighting Gerwig and Robbie’s significance in making the film a global success.
He stated, “Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”
Despite the disappointment, Gosling conveyed happiness for surprise nominee America Ferrera, nominated for best supporting actress, and praised the “incredible artists” who contributed to Barbie’s eight nominations, including best picture.
Ferrera also expressed her disappointment over Gerwig and Robbie not being recognized in major categories, echoing Gosling’s sentiments.
