Woman arrested in California after attempted theft of viral TikTok Stanley cups worth $2,500
A 23-year-old woman has been arrested in California for attempting to steal Stanley cups valued at $2,500 from a local shop.
Store staff confronted her when she refused to pay for the items and tried to escape by loading them into her car.
The stolen items, Adventure Quencher Travel Tumblers, have gained popularity on TikTok with the #Stanleycup hashtag amassing over seven billion views globally.
The viral trend has led to various criminal attempts, including a recent video featuring a man jumping a Starbucks counter to steal a limited edition of the flask.
Police in Roseville responded to a theft report after store staff observed the woman loading a shopping trolley with the water bottles.
Despite being confronted, she fled to her car, leading traffic police to intercept her vehicle as she attempted to enter a nearby highway. A search of the car uncovered 65 stolen Stanley cups.
The police department issued a warning against criminal behavior related to the Stanley Quenchers trend, stating, “While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits.”
The Stanley cups, invented in 1913 by William Stanley Junior and marketed as “unbreakable,” gained popularity among eco-friendly and health-conscious TikTok users.
Recent limited editions of the cups have sparked chaos at US stores, with TikTok videos depicting overnight queues and frenzied rushes to purchase the $54.50 retail-priced cups at Target supermarkets.
