The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Western North Region has clarified that the number of fresh Senior High School students yet to report to school is 2,569, not the previously announced 137,000 by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in the region.

According to the Education Directorate, out of the expected 14,558 candidates to be enrolled in Western North Region schools, 11,989 students, representing 82 percent, have already secured their admission slots.

Daniel Armah Ofori, the Public Relations Officer of the GES in the Western North Region, explained to Citi News that efforts are underway to meet the admission targets.

He stated, “The current enrolment is 11,989 students, which is about 82 percent and so our remaining target to meet is 2,569 students. Although significant progress has been made with the enrolment rate, there is still work to be done to meet our set target.”

Ofori added that circuit supervisors have been deployed to raise awareness about the importance of education and encourage parents to enroll their children in schools.

He said, “Since we have about 3 percent to meet our target, we are ready to deploy our circuit supervisors to be on the ground to help parents and their wards understand the importance of education and so most parents are now convinced to bring their wards to school.”

The President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools in the Western North Region, Nana Amo Amankwah, previously urged individuals facing financial challenges not to hesitate to pick up their admission slots, emphasizing that the essential items are mattresses, towels, and sponges, and they should not worry about acquiring everything listed in the prospectus before attending school.
