Atta Akyea urges Ofori-Atta to consider stepping down

Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, has suggested that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta should contemplate stepping down, considering the mounting pressure and criticism surrounding the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been particularly vocal in blaming Ofori-Atta for the current fiscal difficulties. In an interview on January 16, Atta-Akyea emphasized the need for Ofori-Atta to engage in self-reflection and consider resigning for the benefit of both his well-being and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Atta Akyea expressed concern about the widespread calls for Ofori-Atta’s resignation and suggested that it might be a way for him to find relief from the burdens associated with his position.

He further proposed that Ofori-Atta’s resignation could potentially lead to a more peaceful environment for both the government and the nation.

Atta Akyea also criticized those who attribute the country’s economic challenges to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, asserting that it is unfair to hold him responsible for the economic issues in the Akufo-Addo government.

Atta Akyea acknowledged the challenges in the economy, describing it as ‘unkind’ and ‘cruel’ to place blame on Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing the significant challenges he faces in his role.
