In an effort to control the spread of cholera, churches in Zambia have been instructed to restrict worship time to two hours, with a ban on the sale of perishable and ready-to-eat foods.

Ndiwa Mutelo, a senior official overseeing religious affairs, emphasized the importance of worshippers avoiding handshakes and hugs to minimize the risk of disease transmission.

Worship centers are also mandated to provide safe drinking water, handwashing facilities, and alcohol-based hand sanitizers for their members.

The cholera outbreak in Zambia has seen over 7,800 reported cases since October, with more than 400 new cases and 18 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry.
