“They know that I am the only one capable of retaining the seat” -Andrew Mercer confident of retaining Sekondi seat for NPP

Member of Parliament for Sekondi Andrew Mercer has insisted that his real work will be to deliver the constituency and the rest of Western Region for the New Patriotic Party in the next general elections to ensure continuity in the unbridled development currently ongoing in the country.

Speaking to journalists after his vetting, as he seeks another term, the MP expressed confidence that he will win the primaries “hands down.”

“The great people in this equally great party know what is ahead. They also do know that I am the only one capable of retaining the seat not just for myself but for the next government.”

Andrew Mercer was accompanied by hundreds of delegates in Sekondi, a situation he describes as an endorsement of his stellar stewardship.

“Look around me and go ahead and ask them who they are. These are pollling station executives. They are my people and I’ve been with them through thick and thin. Some of them have been here since morning. That shows the kind of confidence they have in me and this is because I have done and continues to represent them to the best of my abilities.”

He continued: “They wish there was no contest. But this party is a democratic one, embraces all and so it is fair that people show interest. The real question is if interest only is enough.”

His expectations are that the period leading to the election will be devoid of any insults and any acrimony.

“My only prayer is that, the acrimony is minimized. The insult is not part of the conversation. He can tell them what he feels is capable of doing and I will tell them what I’ve done and what it is that if I’m made to continue I can do… Great opportunities that we can create for all of us is in no doubt.”
