Former Kenyan tourism minister arrested over corruption allegations
Najib Balala, a former Kenyan tourism minister, has been arrested and brought before court concerning corruption accusations.
He and other ex-officials are alleged to have inflated the construction cost of a tourism college in Kilifi, with claims of irregular payments totaling $119 million (£94 million).
Balala, along with the others involved, has not yet responded to these accusations.
This arrest marks the first instance of a former minister being apprehended since William Ruto assumed office, pledging to address corruption issues.
Balala held the tourism minister position across three consecutive governments for a span of 12 years.
Authorities mention an ongoing search for additional suspects linked to the case as investigations continue.
