District Level Elections: All Smooth Sailing At Effia Electoral Areas In EKMA
At the Effia Methodist Primary, JHS, T.I. Ahmadhiyya School, and Roman Catholic Church Electoral Areas in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality Assembly of the Western region, voting is going on smoothly.
Residents are voting to elect their respective Assembly and Unit Committee members to ensure that governance gets into the nooks and crannies.
This is the eighth time Ghanaians have gone to the polls to elect their local representatives since the country opted for democratic rule in 1992.
According to the District Assembly Elections Act, the elections are to be held every four years and shall be held at least six months apart from parliamentary elections.
Beach FM’s visit to some polling centres within the Metropolis witnessed voters coming out to cast their votes for their preferred candidate.
In an interview with some of the voters, the process has been smooth, and we are looking forward to a successful election.
They lauded the Electoral Commission for the measures put in place to ensure a peaceful exercise.
“Everything is moving smoothly. We have not encountered any form of vote-buying. Security is at post, there is no intimidation, and no one is preventing anyone from voting. There is no missing name issue; only people forget to bring along their ID cards. But we can sort this out anyway.”
“Since we came here in the morning, everything is in place. All polling and party agents are here to make sure that the voting process goes well. So since we began, we have not encountered any problems. Everything is okay. We have not faced any challenges.
There was just one polling station whose security person was absent. But we now have a replacement, and everything is on order.”
I have been here at about 8 a.m., and I have been able to cast my vote. I am just here, monitoring how things are going. I have an interest in development projects in my area. There are many things we need, and through the assembly members, we can be able to achieve our needs. The process has been going well; only, I was told that the indelible ink was no longer in use and has been replaced by a new way of verification. Let’s see how it goes.”
