Zimbabwe and Botswana pursue passport-free travel agreement

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe and Botswana are in talks to eliminate passport requirements for their respective citizens, joining a trend among African nations easing entry restrictions within the continent.

President Emmerson of Zimbabwe highlighted their African identity, emphasizing the need to facilitate travel among neighboring countries.

He stated, “We should be able to walk into Botswana, walk into Zambia, walk into Kenya. Why should we restrict ourselves?”

Following discussions with Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi, both leaders agreed to instruct relevant departments to ease movement constraints between their nations.

President Emmerson underscored the need to move away from restrictions that reflect colonial legacies rather than patriotism, signaling a commitment to fostering easier mobility between Zimbabwe and Botswana.
