Putin announces intention to run for fifth term in Russia’s presidential election
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly confirmed his intention to seek a fifth term in office, as revealed during a gathering related to the conflict in Ukraine.
This announcement follows the recent scheduling of the presidential election for March 15-17, 2024.
Putin’s potential re-election is widely anticipated, given the limited opposition presence and tight control of Russian media.
Having already held power longer than any ruler since Josef Stalin, another term would extend his presidency until at least 2030.
The Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, noted a significant desire among the public for Putin to continue leading, emphasizing that the decision ultimately rests with Putin himself.
