Parliament forms committee to probe frozen Gold Coast Fund funds
Parliament has formed an ad-hoc committee to examine issues related to the funds held by customers of the now-defunct Gold Coast Fund Management Limited.
The committee, chaired by Joe Ghartey, Member of Parliament for Essikado Ketan, was established following a petition presented to the House by Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central.
In their petition, the customers are urging an investigation into the reasons behind the government’s failure to disburse their locked-up funds. They are also calling for measures to compel the government to fulfill its obligation to repay their investments.
Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, presented the petition to the special committee and set a 3-month timeframe for the submission of its report.
“I will proceed to establish a committee to receive the petition, investigate, and report to the House, and I will propose that the committee be chaired by Joe Ghartey. The other members will include Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Dr. Benjamin Yeboah, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, and two technical experts.
