Nigeria aims to have the largest electric bus fleet in Africa
During the COP28 summit, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar revealed Nigeria’s ambition to establish the continent’s most extensive fleet of electric public transport buses.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement at the UN conference in the United Arab Emirates, Minister Tuggar confirmed plans to initially introduce 100 electric buses next year, with a vision to expand to 1,000 e-buses, positioning Nigeria as a leader in electric mass transit in Africa.
In his statement to local media on Tuesday, Mr. Tuggar emphasized the project’s objectives to reduce emissions, bolster eco-friendly initiatives, and generate employment opportunities across key industries.
Nigeria, recognized by environmental groups as among the prominent greenhouse gas emitters in Africa, aims to leverage this initiative to drive a significant reduction in its environmental footprint.
