A former bodyguard of ex-president Ernest Bai Koroma in Sierra Leone, Amadu Koita, was apprehended on Monday in connection with the recent failed coup, along with two police officers accused of sheltering him, as stated by Sierra Leone’s Information Minister Chernor Bah on Tuesday.

Minister Bah specified that Mr. Koita ” was at the top of the wanted list,” highlighting his significance in the investigation.

Gunmen breached an armory and multiple prisons in Freetown on November 26, releasing nearly 2,000 detainees.

The violence resulted in the deaths of at least 19 individuals, including 13 soldiers, according to army reports.

The recent arrest of Mr. Koita and his associates raises the total count of detentions linked to the coup attempt to 60 individuals.

The government’s announcement on Monday revealed the arrest of 57 people, comprising 37 military personnel, 10 civilians, four dismissed military members, five police officers, and a retired police officer.
