In the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, residents in Dannso are urging the protection of a vital river as the government initiates a Community Mining Program in the vicinity.
The Dani River serves as a crucial water source for locals and farmers, raising concerns about potential threats to the water body from the government’s mining initiative.
Despite residents’ resistance, the program was launched with heightened security, and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources assured that issues raised would be addressed.
Deputy Minister George Mireku Duker emphasized responsible mining and job creation as the primary goals of the Community Mining project.
