Ghana Needs More Technical Institutions—Chairman Of the Governing Council of Ghana Chamber Of Commerce For Young Entrepreneurs

The Chairman of the Governing Council of Ghana Chamber of Commerce for Young Entrepreneurs, Richard Addison is advocating for more technical institutions to be established in the region, and the country at large.

He says the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in nation-building cannot be over-emphasized.

Mr. Addison in an interview on Beach FM, states that the country stands to reap the full benefits of technical education.

He reiterates that the purpose of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is to equip people with the technical and professional skills needed for the socio-economic and industrial development of the country.

According to him, the education system should focus on practical and hands-on skills to develop human resource capacity.

” For a country, like Ghana, I think that technical education should be paramount and key because we are a developing economy, we cannot think about having maybe a scientist going to space. We don’t need that.

We need people who are going to build the ‘aboboyaas’ for us, the plumbers, builders, and artisans. That’s who we need.”

“Our education is such that we go into class and learn the theory but when we come outside practically we have people who claim to be experts, but on the ground, they can’t do anything.

So it’s very difficult to have an economy grow when you don’t have the people you need(the technical).

We need to advocate for technical institutions,” He said.
