Nabdam district tops in multidimensional poverty at 68.6%
The Nabdam District in the Upper East Region holds the highest level of multidimensional poverty among all 261 districts in Ghana, reaching a notable 68.6%.
This figure stands approximately 11 times higher than the Asokwa Municipality in the Ashanti Region, which records the lowest rate at 6.3%.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) disclosed this information in its Multidimensional Poverty Index Scorecard, released as part of the 2023 African Statistics Day commemorative activities on November 21, 2023.
The GSS also highlighted a minimum difference of 20.0 percentage points in the incidence of multidimensional poverty across 55 districts, encompassing both rural and urban areas.
The most significant disparity was noted in Kwahu Afram Plains North, with a 38 percentage point difference.
Additionally, the report emphasized a notable gender gap, stating, “In nine out of every ten districts, multidimensional poverty is more prevalent in female-headed households compared to those headed by males.” This underscores the imperative for targeted interventions to address this issue.
