To nip the cases of attempted fraud in the banking sector in the bud, the Ghana Institute of Bankers is discussing efforts at the 2023 Banking and Ethics Conference in Accra.
In 2022, 2,998 attempted fraud cases were recorded for the banking sector, as compared to 2,347 cases in 2021.
The Chief Executive of the Ghana Association of Banks, John Awuah, has reiterated that efforts in the banking profession are vital for a resilient industry.
He said, “We are monitoring the situation. Of course, what gets measured gets done. There is a lot more focus on the practices, staff conduct, and awareness.
If a whole conference of the CIB has ethical standards, it tells you the kind of premium the industry is placing on the subject matter. So that focus and drive on awareness creation is more involved, and now we’ve just launched a program that, every year, if you want to work in the system, you have to recertify yourself on the ethical standards.”
