Las Vegas: 17-year-old high school student beaten to death over a set of headphones
Las Vegas authorities are in pursuit of two additional suspects following the fatal beating of 17-year-old high school student Jonathan Lewis Jr.
The altercation unfolded in an alley near Rancho High School involving approximately 10 of Jonathan’s classmates.
Eight suspects, aged between 13 and 17, have already been arrested and face murder charges, prompted by a dispute over stolen headphones and a vape.
In a disturbing video, the confrontation escalates as Jonathan and another student start fighting, drawing in the larger group who swarm and assault him.
Lieutenant Jason Johansson of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police described the video as deeply graphic and devoid of humanity.
The tragic incident occurred on November 1st, resulting in Jonathan being found unconscious in the alley, eventually succumbing to severe head trauma six days later.
The autopsy confirmed his death as homicide due to blunt force trauma.
While eight suspects have been identified and apprehended, two others remain unidentified but will also face murder charges, according to the police.
Jonathan’s father lamented that his son, attempting to aid a bullied classmate, faced a brutal assault by 15 individuals.
Images of the two sought suspects were shared by law enforcement, seeking further assistance from the public.
Videos capturing the attack have circulated widely online, prompting authorities to request additional footage from anyone who might have more information.
The Clark County School District (CCDS) vowed cooperation with the investigation, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward violence or threats to student safety.
The CCDS encompasses students across the county, including Las Vegas.
