GlennSamm: The Walking Artiste Who Broke Through With His “Weird” Ideas of Creativity

GlennSamm is a walking artiste and a culture influencer with his ancestral trace from the Volta part of Ghana but basically based in Accra. Glenn, since childhood, has always loved art and has always desired to be known for what he loves.

The kind of arts Ghanaians are used to are mostly acting, singing, modelling, artworks and indigenous works that can be relatable to our culture and traditions. Well, the issue with Glenn totally changed the narrative.

The young and vibrant dark giant man emerged as a walking artiste which most Ghanaians aren’t used to. He started this in the year 2013 at a popular festival known as “Chalewote” held in Accra annually and it continued from there.

Glenn is mostly seen in wrapped African print with paintings and drawings all over his body complimenting it with beads and masks sometimes. A walking artiste is someone who tells a story with his body through painting and other arts.

Since Ghanaians weren’t used to this type of art he was tagged as a “weirdo” everywhere he went but as a strong and ambitious man who wanted to stand and carve a niche for himself never broke down.

He goes to occasions dressed like a typical indigenous man with his paintings on his body and mostly won the worst dresser for occasions but it didn’t stop him despite the mockery and the discouragement.

He was so envisioned with his exceptional style and kept on with this until Nigerian music star, Mr Eazi, reached out to him and paid him for a show he was expected to come and perform his “weird style” as most Ghanaians termed it.

Well, Ghanaians started to accept and purchase his services after Mr Eazi discovered the uniqueness and exceptional qualities Glenn possesses. As of now, he has been paid to execute his special type of art for several festivals and top-notch events hosted in Ghana and beyond.

He has a team now who are also into this course. He’s gone viral and featured on big platforms online which most people wish to emulate him. He’s being paid by big brands for an ambassadorial dealership.

GlennSamm as a culture influencer has in many ways promoted Ghanaian culture and tourism. He has founded his own festival dubbed Tsadidi Fest held in Keta annually.

According to Glenn the biggest benefit in his whole journey as a walking artiste is the fulfilment he has now. GlennSamm has no idea of ending his career as he intends to go outside Ghana, to foreign festivals and promote Ghanaian culture there as well.
